GivingThere is an important principle in life: our affection and commitment follows our finances. Whatever you lend financial support to, it is that to which you become committed. Because of the generous giving of families and individuals, Heartland Vineyard Church:
Money is mentioned in the Bible over 800 times. God doesn't need our money but He does want what it represents: our gratitude, priorities and faith. Tithing teaches us how to keep God first in our lives and to be unselfish in our lifestyle. "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." (Proverbs 3:9-10) When we trust God by giving to Him first place in life, the fullness of his life flows through us. It is our conviction that believers are called by God to contribute at least a tithe ("tithe" means "tenth") of their income to their local church which is responsible for their shepherding and care. "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord." Those led by the Holy Spirit are challenged to give a greater percentage and to excel in the “grace of giving.” This will ensure that the ministries and outreaches of the local church can function effectively for God’s glory. Because you can never out give God, we urge members to give offerings of charity to other works (missionaries, local ministries, etc.) as they are led by the Holy Spirit.
